winter warmth

Frozen flakes of frost fluttering, following
Patterns and piles, potential playgrounds
Tongues taste the trail of tender
Snow softly sighing, swiftly sliding
Hearts heal, hearths hasten
Angels among air and atmosphere
Falling first in fields
Touching trees
Reaching roofs
Soothing souls.

I wrote this close to midnight on January 3, 2004, at home in Victoria, BC, Canada. I'd just driven home as the first snow of the year started falling. When I woke up the next morning, my backyard was snuggled under a thick, white blanket.
